Anchors of Intention for the Holidays

Suddenly with the passing of Halloween and turnover of months, the holiday season begins! Here are two anchors to bring you less stress and more balance this time of year:

1) Commit to a simple shift in your morning routine

Starting your day on the right foot has the power to change the course of your entire day. Then, each morning offers the opportunity to to anchor yourself once again.

  1. Paint the picture of your ideal morning that leaves you feeling like the best version of yourself. Take out a pen and get out all the details!

  2. Edit this scene, pointing to 1-2 behaviors you can commit to each morning to build these new habits. Keep in mind, a successful habit is both something you're capable of and is tied to an action you're already doing automatically.

I'll share mine with you:

  • Switch my cold smoothie to a hot good* breakfast (*with protein, fat AND fiber!)

  • Make 5 minutes between finishing breakfast and making my morning matcha for deep breathing meditation.

2) Stay hydrated

Does your water intake tend to dip as the weather cools? Me. too. However, when the heating starts cranking and sugar intake increases, your body needs more hydration.

Staying adequately hydrated isn't just something you should do, it may reduce cravings and boost your energy levels.

Here are my favorite ways to make drinking water a habit:

  • Turn your water bottle into a tracking abacus. Line up 2-3 rubber bands around the base of a 1L water bottle, and move them to the top each time you finish. Then refill!

  • Set out your water before you go to bed so that it’s the first thing you see in the morning.

  • Front load your water by drinking a big glass (or more) first thing in the morning. Then, sip throughout the day.

  • Get a special water bottle and carry it everywhere. My personal favorite is the 32oz Hydroflask bottle because it’s plastic-free and the vacuum seal keeps cold water refreshingly cold and hot lemon water hot.
